After many years of having a 500+ article website in HTML, I've copied all of my articles to a WordPress format.

However, so many people link to the old articles, I don't want to delete them.  (In addition, some people prefer the old navigation.)  Both versions of the site are hosted under the same domain name.

I don't want Google to see duplicate articles, or link to the old pages at the search engine.  On the other hand, I don't really want to add a "noindex" to every one of the old pages.  That could be a major (and tedious) task.

Will this plugin help me resolve this problem, or is it strictly for posts & pages renamed within WP?

Suggestions?

Copy the articles into WordPress. Either one by one, or programatically (looks like you did this already), then use this plugin to help you redirect the old URLs to the new one so you don't loose the indexing and rankings you already have, and at the same time you get your visitors to the new location.

The plugin is called redirection, it works great for this kind of thing.
You can find it on my favorite plugin list - http://notagrouch.com/technophile/wordpress/favorite-plugins-list.html

You could even tie in WP-Greetbox, to give those people that come to the old links a special message, welcoming them to your new site and telling them that the URL they used is old and they should update it.

Thank you!

That WP-Greetbox tip is absolutely brilliant, as well.

I really appreciate the time you took to reply.  Thanks again!

No problem, I'm glad I was able to help. If you do implement a custom catch for the redirections, come back to share how it went.

@brutalmonnkey
Thank you for helping out! That is definitely a great tip and a great idea! I will have to include this feature into future WP Greet Box!
