Paweena had to go work in Lakeport, CA (city by Clearlake) so I tagged along with her this weekend. Throughout this post, I will be assigning points to my experiences at Clearlake. To start it off, Paweena has been away for a few weeks in Los Angeles, it was nice to finally spend time with her (+3). Things are starting off great so far!
Day 1
We arrived at the doctor’s office at noon and Paweena went straight to work. I sat around trying to hack the local WEP encrypted wireless router for a bit. After a while I decided that the signal strength was not good enough, so I gave up and took off to the local library in hope of using a public internet terminal.
On the way to the library, I did not see any other cars on the road which was a little freaky after 20 minutes of driving (-1). Once I got to the library, there were only 4 internet terminals, all taken up by high school kids surfing MySpace (-1). I went to the library catalog computer and searched for the following keywords “SEO, Search Engine, Blog, Weblog, Internet, PC, hack” and found nothing published after the year 2000. I was confused, so I walked to the one “Computer” shelf they had and found a bunch of old dusty books talking about how mainframe computers are the next new “in” thing (-1). I walked to the magazines section and found that the latest Finance magazine they had was from January 2007 (-1). I moved on and found a recent PC World magazine (September 2007 issue) so I was momentarily saved (+1).
After 30 minutes, one of the kids got off of an internet terminal, so I jumped on and started blogging about WP-Cache. While I was blogging, a new kid (who does not have a MySpace account) sat next to me and started signing up for MySpace. He was frustrated from not being able to sign up (something about incorrect email address), so he had his friends help him. That whole process took 20 minutes of b*tching and moaning right next to my ear (-1). Afterwards he started viewing other people’s profile on MySpace. Each profile load was accompanied by the sound effects, “WHOAAA!! Dag darn it! Woo! Look at her! Hit that!” After 30 minutes of attempting to blog, I couldn’t stand it anymore and left the library to find a coffee shop (-1).
I could not find a Starbucks in town and all the other local coffee shops were crowded with shirtless locals so I didn’t want to go in (-1). I popped into Chevron to grab a Monster Java drink and went back to the doctor’s office.
Once I got back I sneaked onto the doctor’s computer and finished blogging about WP-Cache. Paweena finished working by the time I finished writing, so we left for the hotel. During the way Paweena found out that her cat, Jazzy, died (-1) so that wasn’t fun.
We were checking in at Konocti Vista Resort when the lady at the registrar asked us what car we were driving (I guess to keep tabs on who’s parking on the property). Paweena said “Pontiac GrandAm” and she wrote down “Pontiac Gr. Dam” (-1) and made me laugh (+1). Afterwards we re-parked the car and went to the room and found that our door was covered with some mosquito-like bugs (-1). We quickly opened, slipped in, and shut the door. After settling in, we came back out for dinner at the only “resort” (or last resort) restaurant. We were not seated in the main room, but in a separate side room (we were the only ones in that room at the time). I thought that they wanted to seat us at the 2-seat tables so I ignored it. After a while I saw black couple getting seated next to us and I felt that something was fishy. This must be the “colored” room (-1)! Nevertheless, the food, drink, and waitress was awesome so I can’t complain there (+3)! We went back to the room to called it a night. To be honest, I’d rather call it sleeping on the most uncomfortable mattresses/pillows and falling asleep at 3AM (-1).
Day 2
We woke up early, checked out of the hotel, and left to find some coffee and morning grub. We found a nice coffee shop in Lakeport called Rico Aroma. I had never have a better iced mocha in my life (+1). Next we went to Subway Sandwiches. They weren’t opened for another 5 minutes so we started to walk off. The lady in Subway ran out and asked if we wanted a sandwich. That was very nice of her (+1)!
We headed to the doctor’s office and Paweena started working again. I sat around drawing stuff on Paweena’s laptop and made the new Omninoggin logo plus a few other knick-knacks (+1). After I got bored of being internet-less, I helped Paweena finish her work. She just wanted to GTFO of Lakeport by now so we left at 3pm and faced another 2 hour commute back to Davis (-1).
After we came back, we took a nap then went to watch Resident Evil: Extinction, pretty AWESOME (+2). By the way, “Day Day” died.
Tallying the Points
My total score for the Clearlake trip was -2 before Resident Evil which was really watched in Davis. But it seems like the movie was just what I needed to make my weekend (total score was 0 after the movie), so you should go watch it!
