I'd say the proof is in the pudding. If people saw how many people were using Ad-Block on their site and reducing their revenue, they might be more inclined to use this.

I think this plug-in is a great addition, the configuration provides enough flexibility to run the policy however you want. I am also an ad-block lover, but only when ads prove to be annoying or intrusive. Well-placed, relevant ads are the trade-off for quality content, I've learned from running my own site.

There aren\\'t anyways to get stats out of the box right now. Stats has always been on my list of to-dos, but I haven\\'t been focusing on this plugin as much per the negative feedback I\\'ve been getting from AdBlock lovers. Maybe if I just add this tracking feature, I would get a higher rating and more downloads?

Unfortunately, that is correct since this plugin runs off of JavaScript. If the user is willing to turn off JavaScript by default for all sites, there really isn\\'t much you can do anyway since most ads now-a-days are displayed through JavaScript.

Is there any way to get stats from this plug-in? I like it's functionality as it serves as just a polite reminder. I would be interested in seeing how many times this message gets displayed to users, basically telling me how many regular visitors I get that are using Adblock Plus.

hmm….. I am not very happy with this plugin
I am using ad-muncher as ad filter. this plugin won't fool ad-muncher
And worse, this plugin throws a 404 when trying to load an 1×1 gif: "/images/ad/aaba6484a.gif"
This gif doesn't exists. Can I just use an empty transparent gif?

AdBlockPlus does not set the CSS options, it interacts directly with the HTML rendering engine (resp. it’s output) and not with the sourcecode.

For blocking Javascript on a per-site basis, i’m using NoScript.

Have you taken a look at the screenshot (http://omninoggin.com/wp-content/plugins/anti-adb… I think the image that shows up on the right side shows you exactly how you disable it on one site. Also, there is a statement at the bottom of the message saying, "You will no longer receive this message after 1 visit(s)". Please feel free to let me know if you have better ways of making these points more clear.

That's correct, the counter starts over again if the cookie is deleted and the user could potentially block all cookies and never receive the message at all. That is one weakness of this plugin, but I don't see it as much of a problem. This is because when a user visits a new site, they probably will not notice that the site uses Anti-AdBlock cookie until the message shows up. Once it shows up, it will never show up again so there is no use to block cookies on the site anyway.

it might be helpful to users of your plugin to provide advice on how to whitelist their one site, rather than asking readers to disable adblock entirely. Because Firefox uses tabbed browsing, disabling adblock altogether just opens the floodgates for everything they tried to get rid of… I would imagine that few people, especially those with the minimal savvy needed to install FF plugins, browse sites one at a time anymore. However, it might be more trouble than it's worth for many users to figure out how to make an exception for a single site if it's not spelled out explicitly somewhere.

Also, the user should be told explicitly that they will only receive the popup once. Someone may never visit the site again under the assumption that this will happen each time they visit. Alternately, a user should also be notified if the site owner has set the reminder time to a more frequent number.

Also, a question: does the counter start over again if cookies are manually deleted? Could a user potentially block all cookies for a site and never receive the message?

That's funny… so whatever site uses Buy Sell Ads plugin (with anti-AdBlock), you never visit? Buy Sell Ads service is ramping up quite nicely, it won't be long until these sites with Buy Sell Ads start using my plugin for integration. Promise me that you will permanently block all those sites from your DNS. I would love to see how useful your internet becomes.

Also, I don't think that many other people will not follow your lead because they use my website for plugin support.

I am perfectly fine with people not coming back to my website at all if they decide that my ads are too obtrusive for the quality of content they are getting. As I said before, I try to keep a good balance of the two. If you don't believe me, check out how John Chow sets up his blog (almost the whole site is filled with ads and the content is mediocre at best).

I previously had that feature, but received a lot of negative feedback from a lot of readers. I think an equal annoyance would be to set the number of times the popup shows to something high like 99999999 and disable the "close" feature.

This plugin detects if a regular visitor to your blog (10 visits by default) has AdBlock software enabled. If so, it will display a floating notification message on the 11th visit to your visitor. You can set this message to humbly ask your loyal visitor to support your blog by turning off their AdBlock software, by making a small donation, or by writing about your blog (be creative!). By default, this message box will never show up again for that visitor.

It would be great if there is an option that you can disable the full website for Adblock users.
Something like “Dear visitor, We have detected that you use Adblock plus. To be able to visit this website you need to disable your Adblock plus.”

If the visitor does not disable Adblock plus, it is simply not able to visit the website.

FYI if I went to a site that got around my adblocker on purpose, I would never go back to that website, in fact I am blocking this one from my dns server atm.
