Politically Correct Plugin Helps Save Swear Jar Money

DonkeyOne of my readers, Matt, contacted me the other day about a plugin that he has developed called “WordPress Politically Correct” plugin.  It’s a funny little plugin that changes some politically incorrect terms into euphemisms.  In other words, a good way to keep money out of that swear jar that you’ve been keeping.  Consider the following example.

This text:

So there was this bum harrasing this chick right? The guy was so drunk it wasn’t even funny. Next thing you know this huge, bald fireman comes to her rescue. He grabs the homeless guy and knocks him out cold. The poor soul looked dead, just lying there on the pavement. I know why the guy did it. The girl looked like a slut. He probably thought he was going to get some action. Yeah, she looked real easy.

will get converted to:

So there was this displaced homeowner harrasing this breasted american right? The guy was so chemically inconvenienced it wasn’t even funny. Next thing you know this huge, follicly challenged firefighter comes to her rescue. He grabs the optionally residential guy and knocks him out cold. The economically disadvantaged soul looked metabolically challenged, just lying there on the pavement. I know why the guy did it. The girl looked like a previously enjoyed companion. He probably thought he was going to get some action. Yeah, she looked real horizontally accessible.

It is an interesting plugin that has potential, but I have a few questions/comments/suggestions for Matt after taking a peek at the code:

  1. Right now, the plugin replaces 38 terms.  The plugin maybe doesn’t need to be extensive, but it doesn’t even have the basic swear words (the “F” word, the “A” word, the “B” word, etc.).  Maybe you can hook into some sort of central repository out there on the internet somewhere to do politically correct word translations.
  2. The plugin only filters the post title and the post content.  It would be nice to be able to filter comments too, as those are the only contents that you have no control over until you review it.

I hope this plugin continues to get developed.  I’m quite interested in automatic comment moderation such as Akismet and StupidFilter as it can save us bloggers a lot of time.
